You might think things like freedom, flexibility, setting your own schedule. However, it more like waking up at 3 am with a great idea for a new bundle. Eating a new recipe and thinking, "Hey! This would make a great freezer meal to sell!" Purchasing a new 24" x 36" 2025 calendar so you can plan out your chicken processing dates. Sorting turkeys by weights at 9 pm and hoping you can make everyone happy for Thanksgiving. These are all parts of being a small business owner. You could probably guess them, except maybe the joy that comes from buying a giant wall calendar. You have to know me to understand that.
But there are some other super cool parts of being a small business owner that you might not know about. I want to share a giant perk we get from being your favorite small farm.
We're part of your family.
The other night I was delivering a monthly subscription to a couple who just welcomed their first baby into their family. She had requested some easy to make meals as she planned ahead for this new adjustment period. I handed her the order at the door and she said, "Do you want to come meet the little guy?" OF COURSE! I went inside and watched the new little one snuggled in for a nap on his daddy. We talked about how it was going, establishing sleep and eating schedules, plans for their future, even discussed what would happen when their dog came back home. I was relaying all of this to Chad when I got home and he said, "Walmart doesn't come in to see your new baby." That's when it started to soak in what a great job we have.
If you're a long time customer, I've learned about your family. I've learned about the sports your children play, what grade they're in, how they're doing in school. We discussed your vacations, how work was going ... all the things. We've celebrated births, mourned losses, discussed politics. All within the four walls of a little farm store and sometimes even on your front porch.
As we were processing turkeys, we realized that we had the chance to be a very important part of 38 family's Thanksgiving dinners. Our efforts on the farm helped with your biscuits and gravy, your pumpkin pies, your snacks during that hunting trip with your buddies. Everything we make helps you gather together and make memories. And that's pretty awesome.
We get to help you meet your goals. I've heard so many customers lately looking for ways to eat healthier, wanting to know where their food comes from and know that it's a better quality for their family. I listen to customers who are looking to start new eating regimes, wanting to just eat at home more or wanting to try new things to expand their family's meal repertoire. I listen to your preferences and often know which brat flavor will work best for you, which cuts of chicken you prefer, which seasoning blend will best suite your palate. As we talk, we share recipe ideas and I gather inspiration from you on what else we can do to make your life a little easier.
So we thank you for letting us be part of your family. By choosing to shop with us, you give us a chance to do what we love. Whether you shop with us a few times a year to fill your freezer, monthly as part of our subscription program, weekly for eggs or anywhere in between, thank you. We are so honored to be part of your family and hope you enjoy being part of ours, as well.
